The inclusive-exclusive family

The familia Dei is remarkable. In it you have the triune God, eternally satisfied in himself as Father, Son, and Spirit. Yet, despite his infinite contentedness, he folds his rebellious creatures into his most intimate circle. The Bible is full of stories of the most pathetic and despicable individuals finding their much sought after love, joy, and knowledge in God. No one else would have included those people. The familia Dei is the most inclusive community in the universe.

On the other hand, however, the familia Dei is the most exclusive community in the universe. There is absolutely no weasling one’s way in. It is by invite and pick-up only. Certainly not popular, but you can take that up with JC himself, “No one comes to the Father except through me” (Jn 14:6).

Infinitely inclusive and focused outward, while simultaneously infinitely exclusive and intensely focused inward on himself. Such is the wonder and glory of God.
